Pork Prices Go Hog Wild-Impacts SD State Fair

The price for pigs is going up which is leaving producers with a hefty profit.

The South Dakota Pork Producers Association says farmers are raising fewer hogs and sending more overseas.

For farmers at the South Dakota State Fair, it's taking a toll, for those eating the food and showing their pigs.

The pork stand is bustling with business.  But this year, people are having to fork over a little extra cash in order to savor that sandwich.

"Yes we actually had to increase our prices this year a little bit because the price of meat was up a little bit," said South Dakota Pork Producers, President, Steve Ormmerein.

After several tough years in the pork industry, there are less producers, but the long lines at the food stand make it obvious that there is there a demand.
