This video talks about the Veterinary Feed Directives (VFD), which was developed to prevent the creation of new, approved animal drugs becoming prescription medicated feed. VFD was created in the Animal Drug Availability Act which is not an Rx in federal / state law. The challenges faced by the VFD are increased paperwork, feed mills are put at a disadvantage, storage of VFD drugs etc. It also explains how regulatory support increases veterinary oversight of VFD, prescription status of antimicrobials in water, and the phase out of production uses of antimicrobials resulting in healthy animals.
