In the latest PFR Report, Jason Webster, Beck’s PFR Innovation Lead, highlights the research with the Capello chopping corn head. In 2014, he found that the chopping corn head offered an advantage to sizing residue and evenly distributing the stalk matter across the width of the corn head, saving time, fuel, labor and aiding in residue management. In the 2015 trials, they have been evaluating the use of this equipment in continuous corn and soybeans after corn situations to see how it will affect speed of stalk degradation, drying/warming of the soil, and if it could be a viable solution for “carbon penalty” in continuous corn rotations.
