The National Sunflower Association of Canada (NSAC) hosted its Annual General Meeting at the 2018 CropConnect Conference.
Sunflower planted acres fell short of expectations in 2017, with a total of 55,338 acres being harvested.
NSAC President Mark McDonald talked about the drop in acres.
"There is an ebb and flow to sunflower acres in the province," he said. "You follow good years and those acres trend up, and you get some weather risks or insect disease problems and those acres will go down. Markets are driving acres as well."
He looked ahead to what we might see in terms of acres this upcoming growing season.
"I'm sure it's going to stay pretty consistent. We always hope to see acres increase a little bit but everybody has to make their decisions."
