New Sunflower Air Drill with 9830NT Series

AGCO News

Sunflower®, the leading seeding and tillage line from AGCO Corporation  (NYSE:AGCO), is expanding its seeding product offering to include the new Sunflower 9830NT Series, an integrated seed hopper, single-disc air drill. The 9830NT Series incorporates the best practices of previous Sunflower drills, while also featuring a large capacity, two-compartment seed tank and a narrow, 11.5-foot transport width to give it exceptional versatility and performance.

“The heart of the new 9830NT air drill is Sunflower’s field-proven, single-rank, single-disc opener system,” says AGCO senior product marketing specialist Larry Kuster. “This system delivers the precise, high-speed seeding performance farmers need to plant more acres in less time.”

Each tool bar on the 9800 single disk drill consists of two pairs of seeding disks and two packer tires. Each pair of seeding disks is mounted opposed on a common strut. This patented feature accounts for many of the unique seeding characteristics of this drill. By placing all of the openers in a single row, the opener spacing stays uniform in turns and when drifting on side slopes. The amount of soil coverage over each seed row is more uniform with this arrangement because there are no back rows to cover front rows.

The Sunflower single-disc opener design throws significant soil between the disks and in front of the packer tire, providing more loose soil for packing. As a result, fewer open furrows are created. With the seed placed precisely at each edge of the packer tire, crusting is virtually eliminated, as the seedling has an unpacked path to the surface. The patented five-degree angle of the packer tire scrubs and compacts the soil, closing the seed trench as well as keeping the tires cleaner in sticky conditions.

Two-compartment seed tank improves productivity

The 9830NT Series features a 175-bushel seed capacity, giving it higher productivity and versatility. The tank consists of two commodity chambers divided in a 60 to 40 split, with a forward-chamber capacity of 105 bushels and a rear-chamber capacity of 70 bushels. When combined, this equips the 9830NT Series with a 5.83-bushel capacity per foot of seeding width.

Growers can be more certain than ever that they will place seeds in exactly the right place at the right time with the new AgControlTM system. Developed through AGCO’s Fuse® Technologies precision farming offering, AgControl is the most accurate and responsive rate control system on the market, allowing operators to place inputs, such as seeds or fertilizer, into the field at varying rates, per field prescription zone maps. This variable rate technology optimizes yield potential across the many soil types and formations in the field. The 9830NT task controller also allows operators to vary hybrid seeding as needed. Seed meters are electrically driven and managed by ISO task controllers that provide precise control of the desired seeding rate, along with three-section zone control and seed rate compensation while turning in the field as controlled by the AgControl system.

Compact transport enhances field maneuverability

The 9830NT Series has unusually compact transport dimensions and field maneuverability with an 11-foot, 5-inch transport width and a 30-foot working width. Having the seed tank integrated into the frame greatly reduces the overall length compared to conventional air seeders with a towed-cart configuration, making it possible to back into irregularly shaped areas of a field or readily maneuver around the farmstead and storage buildings.

“With the 9830NT, Sunflower has designed a fast-operating, high-seed-capacity drill that integrates the openers and the seed supply onto one frame for greater maneuverability, versatility and flexibility, so farmers can use a highly productive air drill in a wider range of farming operations,” Kuster says.

A drill designed for accuracy and speed

This Sunflower air drill is designed to seed in the entire range of soil conditions, from no-till with heavy residue to soft, fluffy, conventional till. The 9830NT Series utilizes an advanced metering system to accurately deliver seeds while operating at fast ground speeds. The metering uses a stainless-steel-bodied venture, which eliminates the need for a pressurized tank and greatly reduces the demand on the hydraulic fan that pressures the seed distribution system, and provides a dedicated meter flute for each row. The 9830NT Series, standard-equipment wireless blockage sensors are installed on every seed run to warn the operator if lines are plugged or operating more slowly than specified. The easy-to-use blockage monitoring system is valuable to keep seeding operations running for timely planting of every acre with minimal interruptions.

On the 9830NT Series, the down pressure of each toolbar is created by hydraulic cylinders connected in a parallel circuit, creating consistency across the drill and consistency through the entire range of motion of the toolbars. The 9830NT Series downward pressure system is reliable even in the presence of rocks and other obstructions. To confirm correct depth placement, the 9830NT Series utilizes color-coded depth-control collars on each of the four-frame lift cylinders. The active down-pressure hydraulic circuit is controlled on a cab-mounted virtual terminal that allows operators to change the downward pressure on the go to match varying crop residue and soil conditions.

The 9830NT Series also features one-pass seeding and several convenient fertilizer placement options.
