Ralph Goodale grew up on a farm near Wilcox, Sask. before serving as minister of agriculture and agri-food between 1993 and 1997 during Jean Chretien’s tenure as prime minister.
Goodale’s accomplishments as ag minister include overseeing the Canadian Adaption and Rural Development Fund, which provided $60 million annually for national and rural development programs.
In 1997, Goodale implemented the Agricultural Marketing Programs Act, which helps provide interest-free cash advances to help farmers market their products.
Goodale serves as the public safety minister in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet.
