Canadian rye, triticale receive new tolerance standards for export

By Amanda Brodhagen, Farms.com

The Canadian Grain Commission released a statement on Wednesday saying that there have been new roughage tolerances for exports of triticale, which will take effect July 1 in Eastern Canada and Aug 1 in Western Canada. Prior to this announcement, there were no requirements on tolerances for roughage.

At a recent meeting held in April, the two committees from Eastern and Western Canada outlined some guidelines for tolerance. The recommendations include –0.1% total small seeds, attrition and roughage for triticale and rye. Additionally, both committees also pledged to continue collaborating on grading projects.

The Canadian Grain Commission operates as a federal government agency that manages the country’s grain quality standards, while the Eastern and Western committees provide recommendations to the commission and are comprised of producers, processors and exporters.
