CannTrust Holdings Inc. is partnering with Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University on upcoming medical research studies, according to a release today.

One of Canada’s leading cannabis producers, CannTrust says the collaboration with HHS and McMaster will enhance its contribution to finding evidence of the therapeutic and clinical uses of cannabinoids.

Working with the Michael D. DeGroote Pain Clinic of Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University, and the Michael D. DeGroote Institute for Pain Research and Care of McMaster University, the partnership will explore upcoming randomized placebo controlled clinical trials (RCT).

Using CannTrust’s array of cannabis products, the first clinical trial, Cannabis Oil for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain Treatment (CONCEPT), will launch this fall with more studies following.

A study of CannTrust’s 48,000 current customer profiles shows that pain is a key reason for using medical cannabis.

The company says its partnership with HHS and McMaster will be vital for the medical industry, with results helping researchers, health care practitioners and policy makers to use cannabinoids for creating safer, more effective treatment protocols and public health policies.

Eric Paul, CEO of CannTrust, said the company is “honoured to begin this partnership as our organizations share very similar values.”

He remarked that the partnership “further advances (their) participation in research, innovation and customer education.”

“We feel privileged by the role CannTrust can play in supporting these world-class researchers advance the understanding of medical cannabis.”

CannTrust offers over 40 years of pharmacy and healthcare experience to the medical cannabis industry and is in discussion with other scientific partners on upcoming research projects.
