Minnesota Agriculture in Classroom has created two book bundles teachers can use to help advance their students’ interest in farming and agriculture.
The bundles, aimed at students between kindergarten and grade 2, and grades 3-5 respectively, contain the necessary resources teachers need to build lesson plans. Both bundles come with 10 books and an Educator Guide and explore various agricultural topics including honeybees, pig farming, apple orchards, farm machinery, agricultural history and even how the Cat in the Hat goes about growing seeds.
“We are pleased to offer these new Agricultural Children’s Literature Book Bundles at an affordable price point,” said MAITC Program Director Al Withers. “We encourage local agriculture or education groups to sponsor one or more book bundles for their local elementary school or public library.”
Each bundle costs about $100 plus tax and shipping costs $10. With Christmas just around the corner, the book bundles could make the perfect gift for the teacher on your shopping list.
A study published in July 2015 by AGree found that there are about 1 million students enrolled in food and agricultural education in the United States being taught by a total of 12,000 agricultural educators; the study also found that agricultural education students account for about 3.3 percent of total enrollment for secondary and community college institutions.
