Poultry farmers can fight heat stress and humid climates in their barns to create better conditions for their birds with an innovative cooling pump.

Zoeller’s 370 Series of Evaporative Cooling Pumps are watertight, airtight and equipped “with a glass- filled, engineered plastic, non-clogging vortex impeller with metal insert,” allowing for “reliable water flow to maximize efficiency,” a Zoeller release said yesterday. The cooling pumps are also coated with a powder epoxy finish that is corrosion-resistant.

Other features of the 370 Series of Evaporative Cooling Pumps include a silicon carbide/carbon shaft seal, permanently lubricated upper and lower bearings, and a watertight, neoprene square ring between the motor and pump housing, the release said. The cooling pumps can be entirely submersed, and are “motor oil-filled, hermetically sealed and automatic reset thermal overload protected.”

Evaporative cooling systems are commonly found in chicken barns as they help to reduce heat stress on birds and further assist in lowering and controlling temperatures. To ensure a cooling system is working properly, producers should power it with a proper pump.

“It is important to use a pump that is crafted from quality materials and produces an even water flow rate,” said George Micevski, Zoeller Canada president, in the release. “These are important elements to consider when the health of your livestock is at risk.”

Zoeller will be at the International Production and Processing Show in Atlanta from Feb. 12-14.
