In Saskatchewan, the call is out for passionate individuals to step into roles that could reshape rural life. The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM), together with Rural Municipalities (RMs), is urging residents to fill council vacancies and bring fresh perspectives to local governance.

Residents often know their council members as neighbours: perhaps the cattle rancher nearby, a beloved teacher, or a familiar face at hockey games. SARM President Ray Orb emphasizes the importance of diverse community voices in council roles.

SARM is committed to dismantling the common myths that deter potential candidates, such as the need for political experience or extensive knowledge of municipal affairs.

For those hesitant due to stereotypes or misconceptions, SARM offers many resources including training programs, webinars, and mentorship opportunities.

These tools are designed to ease the transition for new council members, ensuring they are well-prepared to tackle the responsibilities of their roles.

Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the Government of Saskatchewan’s website for details on filing nominations and further information on running for municipal council. The process is straightforward, and support is abundant.

Once elected, council members can expect ongoing support from SARM. With resources at their disposal, the path to effective leadership and community improvement is well-paved.

As Orb puts it, the successes of individual council members are celebrated as collective victories, reinforcing the strength and resilience of rural Saskatchewan.

This initiative represents a unique opportunity for residents to directly influence the policies and projects that shape their daily lives and the future of their communities. By stepping forward, you can play a crucial role in enhancing the vitality of rural Saskatchewan.
