It no longer holds a process elevator licence

A grain handler in Saskatchewan underwent a licensing change.

Parrish & Heimbecker’s pulse plant at 817 – 48th Street East in Saskatoon no longer holds its process elevator licence.

This change took effect on Nov. 1, the Canadian Grain Commission’s (CGC) website says, noting that its other licences are retained.

A process elevator licence is one of four licences the CGC issues.

The process elevator licence “may be issued to an operator of an elevator which receives and stores grain for direct manufacture or processing into other products.”

The Saskatoon pulse plant “is specialized in the isolation and concentration of proteins, starches and fibres from yellow feed peas,” P&H’s website says.

The mill has a daily capacity of about 6,000 cwts. (304,814 kg) – or the equivalent of about 48 African elephants.

Farms.com has contacted P&H for comment on the licence change and if it’s temporary or permanent.

Another grain handler in Saskatchewan provided context about its own recent licence changes.

Taslar Trading Corp. in Regina received a new grain dealer licence from the CGC on Oct. 23 after its previous licence expired on Oct. 16.

Administrative issues caused the expiration, said Hasan Taslar, the organization’s managing director.

“Our last licence expired on Oct. 15, and we couldn’t get the paperwork needed to renew,” Taslar told Farms.com in an email. “People were calling me from France asking what happened.”

One employee left for maternity leave, and another took an opportunity in Regina, leaving a gap in the paperwork trail.

The organization quickly got back on track.

On the afternoon of Oct. 16, Taslar “got the last missing requirement and submitted it but (it was) too late as the CGC required us to submit a new application and we did on Oct. 17,” Taslar told Farms.com.
