The Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) elected a new board and chair at their annual general meeting at the end of February.

The 10 board members represent five provincial canola organizations across Canada. The new members are:

  • Chair – Mike Ammeter (Alberta Canola)
  • Vice-chair – Roger Chevraux (Alberta Canola)
  • Secretary – Katelyn Duncan (SaskCanola)
  • Treasurer – Andre Harpe (Alberta Canola)
  • Director – Robert Vander Linden (B.C. Grain Producers Association)
  • Director – Bernie McClean (SaskCanola)
  • Director – Dean Roberts (SaskCanola)
  • Director – Jack Froese (Manitoba Canola Growers Association)
  • Director – Clayton Harder (Manitoba Canola Growers Association)
  • Director – Hubert Beaudry (Ontario Canola Growers Association)

Mike Ammeter is the new chair of CCGA and is former vice-chair of the organization.

“I'm very excited to work with the board,” said Ammeter.

He is a grain farmer from Sylvan Lake, Alta. and farms with his wife Allison and their son Andrew helps in the spring and fall.

Ammeter is also a director with Alberta Canola and has been a part of commodity organizations for several years.

“I look at these types of roles, whether it's Alberta Canola or Alberta Barley, I just look at it really as service to your industry,” he told Farms.com.

Ammeter enjoys being able to bring farmer’s concerns to the national level and help find solutions. He hopes to continue the great work that’s previously been done at CCGA.

CCGA “does our best to bring forward the voice of canola farmers from Canada and tackle issues as they come and get the wins where you can. And if you don't quite get the result you want, well you keep working and on to the next one,” said Ammeter.

Ammeter is looking forward to working with CCGA staff and the president and CEO in this new position for the next two years.
