New Agreement to Improve Staffing and Services at FSA Offices

The National Farmers Union (NFU) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have announced a significant partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

This agreement focuses on enhancing the operations at the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) county-level offices, which are essential in delivering critical services to the nation’s farmers and ranchers.

Under the terms of the MOU, the NFU will facilitate listening sessions with local farming communities to collect direct feedback on their experiences with FSA services.

This feedback is crucial as it will help USDA to make informed decisions regarding future investments in customer service and program delivery.

These sessions are intended to open lines of communication and enable real-time improvements based on farmer input.

The FSA plays a pivotal role in supporting family farmers and ranchers through various programs, including farm safety nets, disaster recovery assistance, conservation efforts, and providing direct and guaranteed financing.

However, with growing demand for these programs, the current staffing levels have struggled to meet the needs efficiently, often leading to bottlenecks and delays in service delivery.

FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux expressed his commitment to leveraging this partnership to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of local FSA offices, emphasizing that better services for farmers and ranchers lead to better outcomes for all stakeholders involved.

NFU President Rob Larew highlighted the organization's dedication to improving the quality of life for farm families through this collaboration, stressing the importance of accessible, efficient service delivery at the county level.

This MOU between the NFU and USDA is a step towards addressing the staffing and service delivery challenges at FSA offices, ensuring that the agricultural community's needs are met promptly and effectively.
