Ontario Grain Farmers Launch $5,000 Scholarship Program

Apply for Ontario Grain Farmers Scholarship by July 21

The Grain Farmers of Ontario, the largest commodity organization in the province, has opened applications for the Grain Farmers of Ontario Legacy Scholarship.

This program, which is in its third year, aims to support students who are pursuing studies that will benefit Ontario's grain sector or the broader agri-food industry. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 21, 2024.

First introduced in 2022, the Legacy Scholarship has been awarded to 19 students across various fields such as Aerospace Engineering, Sciences, Marketing, Economics, and Agriculture.

The scholarship is part of an effort by the Grain Farmers of Ontario to foster the development of future leaders in the agriculture and agri-food sectors.

Jeff Harrison, Chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario, stated, "Ensuring that students pursue areas of study that will help grow and improve the agriculture and agri-food industries is an important priority for Grain Farmers of Ontario. We are thrilled with the reception of our Legacy Scholarship to date, and we encourage students to apply and grow diversity and interest in farming and the broader agriculture industry."

The scholarship is open to Ontario students who are accepted or enrolled in any accredited post-secondary program.

Up to 10 scholarships, each valued at $5,000, will be awarded annually. Out of these, up to five scholarships may be granted to students pursuing studies not specifically related to agriculture.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident of Ontario.

  • Be enrolled in a full-time program at an accredited college or university.

  • Students are eligible to apply at any stage of their studies.

  • Each student is eligible for only one bursary in their lifetime.

Applicants need to submit a resume and a 500-to-1,000-word essay detailing their interest in their field of study, how their career goals will benefit the Ontario grain sector or the agri-food industry, and why the Grain Farmers of Ontario should support their academic journey.

The application, along with a resume, essay, letter of reference, and proof of enrolment, should be emailed in one document to scholarship@gfo.ca or submitted through the online form available at www.gfo.ca/legacyscholarship

The deadline to apply is July 21, 2024. This scholarship is a great chance for students to help and gain from Ontario's growing agriculture sector.
