Ontario Legislature Scheduled to Debate Rural-Urban Divide

Ontario PC MPP Put Forward Resolution to Debate Rural-Urban Divide

By , Farms.com

The Ontario Legislature is scheduled to debate a resolution today, put forward by Progressive Conservative MPP Randy Pettapiece (Perth-Wellington) on the rural-urban divide.  The proposal will be debated and a resolution will be adopted.

The following is the resolution that was introduced for debate:

That, in the opinion of this House, the government should re-evaluate policies that negatively affect residents of rural and small-town Ontario and are a source of growing frustration in rural communities, which are key to a strong, healthy province.

For those interested in this resolution debate you can watch it live online at www.ontla.on.ca on Thursday, September 6 at 2:30pm EST. The debate is projected to last an hour.

Since Randy was elected on October 6, 2011 he has been a strong advocate for rural communities across Ontario and currently serves as the official opposition’s deputy critic for agriculture. Rural Ontarians know Pettapiece for standing up on important issues that impact their communities and most notability; he has spoken out against the current government’s policies relating to the horse racing industry, wind turbines and red tape issues affecting farmers.

?? The Multi-Plant System Processing 20 Million Hogs Annually in the Midwest JBS USA operates multiple large-scale pork processing facilities across the Midwest, including major plants in Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana. Combined, these facilities have the capacity to process approximately 20 million hogs annually.

Each plant operates high-speed automated slaughter systems capable of processing up to 20,000 head per day, followed by fabrication lines that break carcasses into primals, sub-primals, and case-ready retail products.

Hog procurement is coordinated through electronic marketing platforms that connect regional contract finishing operations and independent producers to plant demand schedules. This digital procurement system allows for steady supply flow and scheduling efficiency across multiple facilities.

Processing plants incorporate comprehensive food safety systems, including pathogen intervention technologies, rapid chilling processes, and integrated cold-chain management. USDA inspection is embedded throughout the harvest and fabrication stages to ensure regulatory compliance and product integrity. Finished pork products — from bulk primals to retail-ready packaged cuts — are distributed through coordinated logistics networks serving domestic and export markets.
