Young members of the ag community involved in the beef sector are encouraged to apply for a mentorship program.

The Canadian Cattle Young Leaders program is open to Canadians between the ages of 18 and 35 interested in industry-specific training and mentorship opportunities.

The deadline to apply for the program is March 31.

The program is open to young producers, people interested in policy development, marketing, advocacy and other areas of the beff sector.

Twenty-four applicants will be chosen to participate in the Canadian CYL Selections competition at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference in Calgary, Alta.

There, they’ll take part in judged roundtable discussions on industry topics.

Of the 24 semi-finalists, 16 will be chosen to be matched with an industry mentor in the mentee’s field of interest for a nine-month mentorship.

The mentors for 2022 included Alberta’s Bruce Niznik, John and Deanne Chuiko from St. Walburg, Sask., and Jack Chaffe from Ontario.

The final 16 also receive $2,000 to use to support industry learning opportunities.

Anyone with questions about the program can contact Jessica Radau, the youth leadership coordinator with the Canadian Cattle Association.

She can be reached at 403-295-5575, or by email.

Farms.com has contacted mentors and mentees from the 2022 program for comment on their experiences.
