$10 Million Funding for New Pulse and Cereal Blends

Protein Industries Canada has launched a new initiative, inviting expressions of interest for projects that blend pulses and cereals to create advanced plant-based ingredients and food products.

With a specific focus on cereals such as wheat and barley, the organization has allocated $10 million to support innovative ventures that can leverage these common grains alongside pulses like peas and fava beans.

The new funding opportunity is designed to strengthen the ecosystem within Canada's ingredient manufacturing sector.

Protein Industries Canada recognizes the potential of cereal-based projects to complement previous investments in pulse-focused technologies, thereby supporting a more integrated plant-based protein industry.

Eligible projects must involve at least two collaborators, including one small or medium enterprise, and focus on using high-protein dryland crops.

Successful projects may receive up to 45% reimbursement of eligible costs, providing substantial financial support to bring these innovative ideas to fruition.

This initiative is part of Protein Industries Canada's broader goal to tap into the $25 billion potential of the country’s ingredient manufacturing, food processing, and bio-product sectors.

The organization has significantly impacted the industry, investing in 72 projects and injecting nearly $600 million into the sector alongside its partners.

Prospective applicants have until January 16, 2025, to submit their expressions of interest, with reviews conducted on an ongoing basis to accelerate the funding process. Interested groups can visit proteinindustriescanada.ca/technology and fill out the form at the bottom of the page.

Video: How Morning Chores Are Done On Our Sheep Farm

At Ewetopia Farms, we show you how our daily morning chores are done on our working sheep farm. In the summer, this would also involve letting the sheep out to pasture. But it is fall in Canada, and most of our sheep are currently in breeding groups, and the pastures are eaten off, so most of the sheep are being fed indoors until the end of winter. What is a little different in our farm routine in this sheep farming vlog is that we have a customer drop by to pick up one of our Suffolk rams for breeding to their flock so we load him up and have a look at the ram they picked out.
