More than 41,000 units are involved in the recall
Kawasaki Motors and John Deere are recalling more than 41,000 John Deere ZTrack Zero Turn mowers across Canada (about 2,600 in Canada) and the United States because of potential fire and burn hazards.
“The voltage regulator in the mower’s engine can fail during use or while the product is being stored, causing the engine to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards,” the Jan. 2 recall says.
Kawasaki has received five reports of fires and 26 reports of melting or smoking, but no injuries reported.
Voltage regulators are designed to maintain a constant output voltage, regardless of changes in input voltage or load conditions.
The call applies to mowers with model numbers Z720E, Z730M, Z740R and Z760R with Kawasaki engines with the following serial numbers:
Model | Start Serial Number | End Serial Number |
Z720E | 1TC720E****010001 | 1TC720E****080657 |
Z730M | 1TC730M****010001 | 1TC730M****080574 |
Z740R | 1TC740R****010001 | 1TC740R****080462 |
Z760R | 1TC760R****080001 | 1TC760R****080339 |
Customers affected by the recall should contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair.
Deere and Kawasaki are contacting impacted customers directly.
John Deere last had a product recall in September 2024.
More than 150,000 utility tractors in Canada and the U.S. were part of a recall relating to the brakes.
“The front bell crank in the brake linkage can fail causing the tractor to lose braking, resulting in a crash hazard,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said.
