Registration for National Corn Yield Contest approaching

Early entry by June 15th; final deadline by August 3rd

Phil Jackson, 11-time NBA champion as a coach of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers has an interesting quote when it comes to competition and the experience during it.

“Winning is important to me, but what brings me real joy is the experience of being fully engaged in whatever I’m doing.”

Farmers aren’t all that different, are they?

They love every aspect of what they do, but winning a competition or two doesn’t hurt either. Farmers with corn crops looking to engage in competition will have the opportunity to do so shortly.

Registration for the 2015 National Corn Yield Contest will open at the beginning of May. The competition recognizes the hard work and dedication farmers put towards their fields by using a combination of new technology and classic practices.

The competition honors farmers on the national and state levels while featuring a variety of categories for entrants including:

AA Non-Irrigated Class
For anyone in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio or Wisconsin practicing conventional, minimum, mulch and ridge-till where more than a third of the row width is distributed between last year’s harvest and this year’s harvest.

Irrigated Class
For farmers in the continental U.S., entrants should be using mechanical or man-made irrigation tools.

The early registration deadline is June 15th with a fee of $75 per entry and the final deadline is August 3rd with an entry fee of $110 per entry between June 16th and August 3rd.

The harvest form deadline is November 20th.

The 2014 national winner was Wiles Brothers, Inc. from Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Their winning yield topped out around 357/bushels per acre.
