The 2022 harvest season is underway in the U.S. as farmers are starting to harvest their spring wheat crops.

U.S. farmers have harvested 9 percent of the 2022 spring wheat crop, the USDA’s Aug. 9 Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin said.

The USDA estimated farmers planted 11.1 million acres of spring wheat in its Acreage report in June.

This means farmers have harvested about 999,000 acres of spring wheat as of Aug. 9.

For context, producers in South Dakota planted about 770,000 acres of spring wheat in 2022.

In fact, growers in South Dakota have harvested the most spring wheat.

Growers in the state have combined 54 percent of their spring wheat acres, the USDA’s report says.

Only farmers in Montana have harvested more than 20 percent of their state’s spring wheat crops.

Growers in that state have combined 22 percent of spring wheat acres.

Farmers in Idaho, Minnesota and Washington State have harvested between 2 and 8 percent of local spring wheat, respectively.

Growers in North Dakota are yet to begin spring wheat harvest, the USDA’s report says.

The 2022 corn crop has entered its next development stage.

About 6 percent of U.S. corn acres are dented, the USDA said in its report.

With farmers planting about 89.9 million acres of corn in 2022, this means about 5.4 million acres are in this stage.

To put that into perspective, farmers in Indiana planted about 5.1 million acres of corn in 2022.

Corn in Texas is the furthest along.

About 64 percent of corn in that state is in the dent stage.

More than 30 percent of corn in Tennessee, North Carolina and Kentucky is also in the dent stage.

Of the 18 recorded states, only Colorado, Wisconsin and North Dakota are yet to record any corn in the dent stage.
