Farmers Await Reimbursements for Climate Practices

Farmers across the country are facing uncertainty as the USDA has placed a hold on payments for climate-smart projects. These projects, part of the $3 billion Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities initiative, were designed to support sustainable farming practices.

However, recent developments have left many farmers questioning whether they will receive compensation for their efforts.

The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) sent a letter to Iowa’s congressional delegation, confirming that USDA has put all payments on hold. The letter highlighted that farmers are owed $11 million for implementing approved conservation practices in 2024. Without clarity from the USDA, project leaders and participants remain uncertain about when payments will resume.

In a recent communication from the USDA, an official stated, “Reimbursements are currently on hold while we await guidance from the Department.” This uncertainty has caused frustration among farmers who depend on these funds to support their climate-smart initiatives.

As discussions continue, agricultural leaders are urging USDA to provide clear guidance and resume payments to ensure that climate-smart farming remains a viable option. Many farmers remain committed to sustainable practices but need financial support to continue their work effectively.
