What do farmers listen to when they’re driving tractors for several hours daily during planting season?

Farms.com posed the question to farmers in Western Canada to find out what’s on their radio dial while in the field.

For Johannes Finck, a cash crop producer from Rocky View County, Alta., the radio dial stays wherever a certain genre of music plays.

“I usually listen to country music,” he told Farms.com. “Especially any station that’s playing any sort of old country music.”

When he is not enjoying country tunes, Finck finds a local sports station to get any Calgary Flames updates, he said.

Dale Hofstra, a cash cropper from Leduc County, Alta., also enjoys country music on the FM dial.

“I really like Eric Church and Luke Combs,” he told Farms.com. “I also love all of the older country music from the ‘90s and stuff like that.”

Other farmers enjoy being kept up to date on the latest industry news.

“I usually listen to farm-related podcasts or farm news stations on the radio,” said Brad Blackwell, a cash crop farmer from Dinsmore, Sask.

Some producers, however, prefer a quiet working environment.

Emile Morin, a cash crop producer from Otterburne, Man., leaves the radio off to focus on other things inside the tractor.

“I’m not a big radio guy so I usually turn it off and listen to my monitors,” he said. “There’s enough going on inside the tractor that I like to concentrate on what the equipment is telling me.”

Keep the conversation going and let Farms.com know what you listen to while driving your farm equipment.
