Small Farm Canada publication acquired by Farms.com
Guelph, ON & Victoria, BC
Farms.com and Southern Tip Publishing Inc. today announced that Farms.com has acquired Small Farm Canada magazine and Service Truck magazine.
The acquisition of Small Farm Canada enhances Farms.com’s expanding portfolio of media and publishing products and services for the agriculture and food industries. Acquisition of Service Truck diversifies Farms.com’s portfolio into the business of heavy-duty mobile repair.
Small Farm Canada is a national magazine distributed in every province and territory. Small Farm Canada is the established voice in Canadian agriculture that informs, entertains, inspires and challenges small farmers and rural property owners across Canada.
Small Farm Canada’s history of award-winning content will be continued by the existing talented writing contributors, supported by the Farms.com team. Small Farm Canada also provides information on every day rural life with recipes and gardening tips. The magazine is a subscription-based publication, published six times per year. In addition, magazine issues are available on newsstands, and in total the publication has a readership of up to 67,000.
“While many people may be surprised by our acquisition during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Farms.com believes that the strength and resilience of the farming and rural community will be proven once again” says Farms.com President & CEO Graham Dyer. “We know that small farms account for over half of all farms in Canada, and research shows their numbers have been growing. We believe that the needs of this market will continue to grow, and we are delighted to have the award-winning Small Farm Canada magazine join our editorial portfolio.”
Service Truck magazine enjoys a strong reach in both Canada and the US, addressing the business of heavy-duty mobile repair.
“We are delighted to have found such a well-respected home for our publications," says Small Farm Canada editor and founding partner Tom Henry. "Farms.com shares our commitment to editorial quality, and has the resources to take the magazines to the next level, so we see it as a positive step for our readers and our advertisers."
Henry, along with business partners Peter Chettleburgh and Violaine Mitchell, launched Small Farm Canada in 2004 and Service Truck in 2013. The partners are retiring from publishing.
Small Farm Canada and Service Truck will join other strong media assets in the Farms.com network, which includes magazines: Better Farming, Better Farming Prairies, Better Pork, Ag Buyer's Guide, and US Farmer; as well as Agriville.com and the 15 state Ag Connections websites.
The transaction between Farms.com and Southern Tip Publishing was facilitated by media broker Gord Carley (www.gcmediabrokers.com).
