20-year-old Toyota truck stolen from farm

GREY HIGHLANDS — A 20-year-old pickup truck was recently stolen from a southwestern Ontario farm — another sorry statistic in Canada’s ongoing vehicle theft crisis.

The white 2003 Toyota Tundra model with rust above both rear wheel wells disappeared from the rural Grey Highlands property, on 4th Concession B, sometime between Jan. 15 and Jan. 17, according to Grey Bruce OPP.

The loss of the aging pickup comes as the Trudeau government plans a February “summit” to look at ways of quelling the ongoing rash of vehicle thefts in the country. Last year, the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association reported that a vehicle is stolen every six minutes in Canada. Insurance companies paid out more than $1 billion in stolen vehicle claims in 2022, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

At the same time, most vehicle thefts go unsolved and unpunished. There were 37,041 vehicle thefts recorded in Ontario in 2022, but charges laid against only 2,078 people, according to Statistics Canada.

Anyone with information about the stolen Toyota is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous online message at https://crimestop-gb.org/ . Crime Stoppers tips may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

The massive flooding made our corn very short and highly variable in moisture, which is making it extremely difficult to properly set the farm equipment. Join me in today’s video as we take on harvest Day 1 and learn why this year is very different from a normal harvest season for our farm
