2016 In Review- Checkoff Investments Of The Oklahoma Beef Council

The Oklahoma Beef Council has been involved in a variety of programs and investments- all designed to sell more beef and educate children, youth and adults about the benefits of beef in a healthy diet. Here are ten of the success stories for the OBC for 2016:



A significant highlight in 2016 was the sponsorship of two presentations to Oklahoma medical groups by Dr. Richard Raymond MD, a former USDA Undersecretary of Food-Safety who broke down the myths and facts associated with the use of antibiotics in animal health.
  
OBC funded multiple successful promotions of US beef in Japan in 2016. These efforts help drive growth in the export market which is so important to the bottom line of Oklahoma farming and ranching families.   In one successful promotion in 1500 outlets, we drove approximately $600,000 in additional sales of US beef and the retailer is making plans to increase its US volume 70 percent.

The "Beef for the Classroom" program ensured almost 5000 kids learned about beef cookery and education. Without this program, beef is too expensive for many schools to purchase and use as part of their program.

 Through a cooperative program with FFA, just under 500 FFA students received their Master's of Beef Advocacy (MBA) ensuring we have a generation of beef advocates.

The OBC participated with other state beef councils as part of a partnership to drive consumer awareness and usage of the "Beef. It's What's for Dinner" website in states with high populations like California and New York. Oklahoma dollars specifically drove 86000 views of the "Beef. It's What's for Dinner" website and generated 137,000 views of our online videos.

OBC hosted three beef immersion events with 45 UCO, OU and OSU dietetic interns. This group of women and men will be future nutrition influencers when they complete their program and become dietitians. The results speak for themselves. Interns were 88.2% more likely to recommend lean beef because of the training.

In the nutrition arena, OBC sponsored Neva Cochran, MS, RDN, LD, FAND "Eating Beyond the Headlines: Sorting Evidence from Emotion," at the Oklahoma Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual meeting.

Working to build trust with Oklahoma consumers, OBC funded a consumer trust campaign highlighting Oklahoma farming and ranching families reaching a readership of 2 million through key publications.
