U.S. corn and soybean harvest activity continues to be delayed by wet weather. 14 of the top soybean growing states and 9 of the leading corn states are steady to behind normal, with more rain expected in some areas through midweek, potentially lowering yields and harming quality.
As of Sunday, 63% of U.S. corn is harvested, compared to 49% a week ago and the five-year average of 63%, while 72% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 53% last week and 81% on average. Enough corn and soybeans are harvested that the USDA has ended national condition ratings for the season.
Weather is also slowing down winter wheat planting and while the soil moisture is welcome in parts of the Midwest and Plains, it could lead to some acres going unplanted. 78% of winter wheat is planted and 63% has emerged, both slower than normal, and in the first rating of the season, 53% of the crop in good to excellent condition, 1% more than this time last year.
