Ag Critic Not Worried About His Future Without Scheer

It was an unexpectedly busy day for Conservative Ag Critic John Barlow (Alberta MP) on Thursday, with the sudden resignation of Andrew Scheer as Conservative Party Leader.

Barlow backed Scheer from the start, particularly in his run for the leadership back in 2017.

That begs the question of if Barlow is concerned for his future in the party under a new leader.

"I've had some great opportunities with Andrew as our leader. But I think that comes down to what I bring to the team. The intangibles that I bring, my skill set. I think I've proven myself not only here in Ottawa, but in the riding and across Canada."

Scheer stepped down under increasing pressure, following what many consider a disappointing loss in October's federal election.

Barlow says now is the time the party needs to stick together and focus on the task at hand.

"We've made some great accomplishments in this election, we cannot forget that. We have a job to do. We must focus on that job. Andrew will stay on as leader until a new one is chosen, which I think is very positive. We need that consistency there. But now we have to focus on the job we have here, but also this gives us some time to find that new leader."

Historically wars like the 2026 Iran war are bullish hard assets like grains, metals and energy! The funds are spooked and do not want to be short, but do they price in the news over time, similar to the Ukraine/Russian war that started on Feb. 24, 2022? A closure of the Strait of Hormuz is the key to the surge in crude oil, natural gas prices and fertilizer prices.  Grains are breaking out to new contract highs as a hedge against inflation.
