The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed March 11 - 17, as Agricultural Safety Week.
“This week helps to remind farmers and ranchers to keep farm safety at the forefront of any operation year round,” Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart said. “Taking steps to prevent injuries on the farm must always be a priority.”
Each year, Saskatchewan’s Agricultural Safety Week is recognized in conjunction with Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, a partnership between the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, as a way of raising awareness of on-farm safety issues.
“Every spring we hear too many accounts of Saskatchewan farmers being injured or worse,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said. “As you head into this busy season, please stay rested and alert, ensure all farm and safety equipment is working properly, and above all, consider your safety and the safety of those around you.”
In 2018, Canadian Agricultural Safety Week is continuing with the “Be an AgSafe Family” theme, aimed at empowering farm families with information they need to help keep kids, adults and seniors safe on the farm. This is the third year of the AgSafe Family campaign and the focus for this year is support for seniors on the farm.
