Barley Prices Struggle In Saskatchewan

A market analyst sees limited price rises for Saskatchewan barley this crop year.

Neil Townsend with FarmLink Marketing Solutions says there is a good world supply of high quality barley for malting purposes.

He says China has been buying some barley and it is supporting the market but large supplies are pressuring prices.

“Youre lucky to get 5-dollars for two-row malt barley right now,” Townsend said. “Price are in the four-dollar range. Going forward, it really just depends on quality outcomes in some other places.”
