Celebrating Alberta farmers: Minister Sigurdson

“Alberta farmers, ranchers and agri-processors put food on the table for Albertans, Canadians and people around the world. This holiday season, when you gather around a table filled with delicious food, surrounded by family and friends, be sure to remember the producers who made your holiday meals possible.

"Alberta is known around the world for producing top-quality, great-tasting food with the highest standards of food safety, attention to animal care, biosecurity and environmental stewardship. Whether it’s fresh produce, beer and cider, or our world-renowned Alberta beef, Alberta’s agricultural producers provide Albertans with nutritious food every single day.

“While many of us are enjoying the holiday season, celebrating with loved ones and ringing in the new year, farmers are working hard to meet challenges head-on, keep food on our tables, and drive growth in our agriculture sector.

“Showing our appreciation for Alberta’s farmers and ranchers is more than acknowledging their hard work. It’s shopping locally, buying made-in-Alberta products and supporting our local agricultural societies and youth organizations such as 4-H. Most importantly, it’s about making an effort to better understand how your food made it from the farm to your plate. Your support will make a difference in the lives of Alberta families whose livelihoods rely on agriculture.

“Agriculture is very much a part of our province’s culture and way of life. It’s not just business. As we ring in 2025, I encourage all Albertans to thank our ranchers, farmers, agri-processors and caretakers of our crops and livestock; without you, we have no food.”
