CN Rail Says Grain Starting To Flow After Tough Harvest

Grain availability has been a concern this shipping season.

Rail customers have self-cancelled almost eight thousand orders for CN supplied equipment through the first 14 weeks of the crop year.

David Przednowek is the company's director of grain marketing.

"There was capacity to move more grain earlier in the year but there just wasn't enough of a flow of grain to let that happen," he said. "Now that's starting to hit, most of the harvest is done, that demand is really trying to spike now to cover those exports sales. But there's a limit to what the supply chain can handle on a weekly basis, so it's hard to play catch up. As it stands through October, we are on a record pace."

Przednowek says last month the company reported its second best October on record.

He was a guest speaker last week at the Grain World Conference in Winnipeg.
