Dairy Workshop To Deal With Cow Reproduction

Dairy producers will have the chance to learn the latest information on reproduction at a day-long workshop titled, “What is your pregnant cow worth?” by I-29 Moo University. It will be offered in five different states from Jan. 11-15.

The northwest Iowa workshop will be held Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach – Sioux County office, 400 Central Ave. NW, Suite 700, in Orange City.

The program features extension dairy specialists from each state belonging to the I-29 Dairy Outreach Consortium, the organizer for I-29 Moo University.

Veterinarian Ryan Breuer, ISU Extension and Outreach dairy specialist, will discuss cow synchronization, which involves manipulating the animals’ estrus cycles so they can be bred at the same time. Other topics that will be covered include current developments in genomics and genetics, management practices and their impacts on reproduction, performance record keeping and economics.

“Dairy producers are encouraged to attend this workshop because the information provided will help enhance their dairy herd’s reproduction performance,” Breuer said.

The registration cost before Dec. 31 is $50 per person, $20 for college/technical school students. After that date, the cost increases to $65 per person and $25 per student. To register, visit iGrow.org/events.

The Consortium represents ISU Extension and Outreach, the University of Minnesota Extension, Nebraska Extension, South Dakota State University Extension and North Dakota State University Extension.
