Farm Equipment Operations Class Offers Training on Various Machinery

Northeast Community College is doing its part to increase safe operations by offering a Farm Equipment Operations course this fall.

“As machinery and automation has grown in agriculture, so too has the complexity of operating the equipment. This class will provide an opportunity to practice using the equipment for those who may not have been on an operating farm,” said Cyndi Hanson, dean of workforce development. “It also provides an opportunity for high school students to develop safe operations practices which are essential year-round.”

The class will meet two days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and is open to everyone, including those who are not pursuing a degree.

“We find people may be interested in a class for personal growth and development or to explore an area of interest,” she said. “This class is being offered at a time and in a format that could be accessible to non-traditional learners in the region.”

Students will learn how to safely operate and maneuver common farm machinery such as tractor, skid steer, combine, UTV, pickup and trailer (bumper hitch and gooseneck), center pivot irrigation, and other implements.
