Federal and Provincial Ag Ministers on same page when it comes to slow grain transportation

Grain movement was the key topic Wednesday, when the federal agriculture minister met his provincial counterpart in Regina.

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay, is pressuring the railways to step up service, and hopes the senate will soon approve new transport legislation.

Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart, is also pushing for legislation to make the railways more accountable.

“To drive the share prices from time to time, they sell off and lease out equipment, they layoff crews and make their bottom line look temporarily much better,” he said.

“That’s what caused this problem in 2013, 2014 and now again this winter,” Stewart also said.
