Federal Government Needs to Ratify the CPTPP

The Western Canadian Wheat Growers calls for the immediate ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

“The Canadian government has invested $3 Billion in agriculture in an effort to grow trade and expand markets, but has not yet taken the obvious step of ratifying the CPTPP in order to open export markets”, stated Levi Wood, President.

Canadian wheat growers are amongst the most efficient, productive grain farmers in the world and depend upon a global trading market to export our crops. Wheat growers and their suppliers have invested millions of dollars in order to ensure high productivity. To capitalize on this investment, export markets need to be made accessible.

“Canadian farmers are in a position to contribute to the global trade of food and provide nutritional security, but our federal government needs to ensure that we have access to the markets that need our grain. The Wheat Growers calls upon Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Carr to ensure that Canada is a leader amongst the countries striving to ratify the CPTPP and help us gain a competitive advantage,” said Cherilyn Nagel, Director.
