Funding applications now open for two new programs under the Sustainable CAP program

Agriculture Minister Derek Johnson says a variety of beneficial management practices for crop, manure and livestock, and water management are eligible for cost-shared funding.

The Sustainable Agriculture Manitoba (SAM) program provides funding to increase the environmental and economic sustainability of an agriculture operation with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation, air quality, water quality and quantity, soil health, and biodiversity.

The deadline to apply for SAM  is June 13th.

Applications are also available under the Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP): Carbon Sequestration and Grassland Resilience stream to support on-farm beneficial management practices and projects.

White rot, also known as sclerotinia, is a common agricultural fungal disease caused by various virulent species of Sclerotinia. It initially affects the root system (mycelium) before spreading to the aerial parts through the dissemination of spores.

Sclerotinia is undoubtedly a disease of major economic importance, and very damaging in the event of a heavy attack.

All these attacks come from the primary inoculum stored in the soil: sclerotia. These forms of resistance can survive in the soil for over 10 years, maintaining constant contamination of susceptible host crops, causing symptoms on the crop and replenishing the soil inoculum with new sclerotia.
