Get ‘The Dish’ on perennial risk management at AgSmart

Producers can get The Dish on the challenges and opportunities of perennial risk management August 1 at AgSmart. The Dish is a special informational event hosted by Agriculture Financial Services (AFSC) and AgSmart.

Attendees will gain insights into the opportunities and challenges related to perennial risk management in both Canada and the United States, AFSC’s current position and future goals for the program, and current impacts on the agriculture industry.

This special event starts at 12:30 p.m. and features lunch, a keynote address on perennial risk management in Canada and the United States and panel discussion on insurance coverage options with management practices and the realities of the cattle business.

Dr. Colin Hiebert, research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada – Morden, is focused on developing new tools that wheat breeders can use to improve, diversify and strengthen disease resistance in new wheat varieties. This includes new genomic tools that address resistance to five diseases including: Fusarium head blight, leaf rust, stripe rust, stem rust and common bunt.

Learn more about how research conducted at AAFC-Morden will impact wheat variety development, production and profitability for the future. This research is part of the Canadian National Wheat Cluster and funding is provided through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Alberta Grains, Sask Wheat, Manitoba Crop Alliance, Western Grains Research Foundation and Canadian Field Crop Research Alliance.
