Hail Claims For Crop Damage Down In Saskatchewan

Hail Claims For Crop Damage Down In Saskatchewan

Hail claims for crop damage in Saskatchewan are down substantially from previous years after few claims were filed across Saskatchewan in August.

The chair of the Canadian Crop Hail Association, Rick Omelchenko, says hail claims are one third of normal this year in Saskatchewan.

He says there were a couple of pea sized hailstorms in eastern Saskatchewan in late August.

“You’re getting anywhere from 5 to 35-percent,” Omelchenko said. “There were some crops that were very ripe and those are 100-percent gone. But there are very few of those.”

Together with the Ag Transport Coalition (ATC), Sask Wheat calls for Transport Canada to explore all opportunities to ensure our supply chains function effectively. Sask Wheat and ATC also ask for federal politicians, Transport Canada and other regulatory bodies to ensure rail service providers meet the demands of the modern global economy.
