Hail insurance protects producers from the storm

For crop producers, there are few things as devastating as a hailstorm. Agriculture Financial Services (AFSC) offers Straight Hail Insurance so producers can secure peace of mind knowing their assets are protected from one of nature’s most damaging elements.

AFSC clients can purchase Straight Hail Insurance on fields that have not had previous hail damage through AFSC Connect until July 31. Simply log in, create and save an estimate, and then you are ready to purchase. Insurance comes into effect at noon the following day. Clients who purchase online receive a two per cent discount on their premium.

Please note, applications for Straight Hail Insurance for Market Gardens must be completed with an AFSC representative or at an AFSC branch office.

When inclement weather hits, AFSC alerts hail clients by email of storm activity that may have occurred in the vicinity of their insured fields. Simply sign up for AFSC Client Notifications to receive storm notifications.

Filing a claim

Hail clients who have suffered a loss of 10 per cent or more on an insured crop are eligible for a payment based on the percentage of loss on the damaged acres. Hail claims must be submitted to AFSC within 14 calendar days after the storm occurs.

Submitting a claim is easy and can be completed anytime, anywhere. AFSC Connect online hail claim reporting prepopulates client land and crop information. From the office or the field, clients simply need the following information to complete their claim:

  • The legal location, crop type and number of acres effected
  • The date of the storm
  • Estimate of the percentage of damage for each crop
