Harvest Ahead Of Schedule

Manitoba Agriculture says harvest completion sits at 88%, well ahead the three-year average of 76% at this time.

Rapid progress was made in the soybean harvest last week, with many producers finishing up.

The grain corn harvest is sitting at about 8 per cent complete.

"There are some producers that are still waiting a little longer to get started, despite the opportunity to do so given that seed moisture content is typically between 20 to 27 or 28 per cent. Grain corn is safely stored at less than 15.5 per cent. What producers are hoping to do is take advantage of these warm, windy days we have the next week and allow some natural drying of that grain to occur before they take it off the field," said Oilseed Specialist Dane Froese.

Cattle are being removed from community and private pastures, and back to overwintering yards.

Greenfeed silage supplies have boosted the outlook for overwintering feedstocks, though pastures are in fair to poor condition, with very dry surfaces.
