High River Farm Takes Home A Big Win At Agribition

A High River couple are no strangers to Canada's premiere cattle show event which was held in Regina last week.

Roy and Cheron Chamberlain of Sidetrack Stock Farm made the trek out east for Canadian Western Agribition to compete in the Shorthorn breed show on Friday, November 29.

Roy Chamberlain, who also works as the High River Agricultural Society's Facility Manager, says their small quality-based herd is primarily Shorthorn cattle.

The hard work paid off for the Chamberlains who won Grand Champion Shorthorn Female with their heifer and Reserve Champion Shorthorn Bull Calf.

Roy says they've won Reserve Female twice in the Shorthorn show, but this is their first Grand Champion win at Agribition.

"She's just an all round pretty sound, feet, body, good looking female," Chamberlain said when describing the heifer. "She doesn't have many holes in her. She's not the biggest one you've ever seen, but she's pretty nice."

Chamberlain says he has been to many Agribition shows since he was in his 20's, and even met his wife there at the age of 29.

He says they did take a ten year break from the show at one point, but returned to what he describes as the "Super Bowl" of cattle shows last year.

"You just never know when you go to these things," he said describing the win. "It's always one person's opinion on that day. When you always think, 'Well we've got a shot at it, we're definitely in the hunt here', but [not] until you get that slap it's for sure."
