Kostyshyn named as Manitoba Agriculture Minister

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has selected Ron Kostyshyn the MLA for Dauphin as the new Minister of Agriculture.

The Ag portfolio is something Kostyshyn is very familiar with after having served in the role as Agriculture Minister from 2012 to 2016.

Ron and his wife ran a family mixed farming operation for 40 years and has spent several years in the political arena from municipal to provincial politics.

He's held many roles on community boards including as Reeve for the Mossey River Municipality, and AMM Parkland Director.

Kostyshyn was first elected to the legislature in 2011 as MLA for Swan River and was later named Minister of Agriculture.

Canary Biofuels has qualified for a $1.7-million tax credit under Alberta’s Agri-Processing Investment Tax Credit program for constructing a cold press oilseed crushing plant in Lethbridge. The company is investing $18 million in the project that is expected to create 40 permanent and 25 temporary jobs, process 200,000 tonnes of seed per year and produce value-added products such as canola oil and meal. This is just the latest example of how the province is attracting job-creating investment to diversify Alberta’s economy.
