Lisa Greenan is Changing the Rules of Seed Testing

With over 20 years of experience, Lisa Greenan has not only shaped industry standards but has also fostered a collaborative spirit among her peers. The senior seed analyst at Seed Check in Leduc serves on several key committees including the Seeds Canada Canadian Methods and Procedures for Testing Seed Committee, Seed Analyst Accreditation Committee and the Seed Testing and Quality Assurance Committee.

“What drives me is the potential for improvement in our testing methods,” she says. “We actively propose rule changes to methods and procedures that reflect modern practices and elevate the standards of our industry.”

Her ongoing collaboration with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Seed Sector Training Strategy showcases her commitment to enhancing seed testing procedures.

Her innovative mindset extends to the tools she employs. Take her seed blower, for example — an unassuming piece of equipment that transforms how she approaches complex tasks. “It might look basic, but it’s a game-changer,” she explains. “By using various sieve sizes, we can efficiently separate seeds, especially when working on complex forage mixtures. It’s all about finding smarter, more efficient ways to get the job done.”

But her impact goes beyond technology. Greenan is a fierce advocate for the seed testing community, believing that knowledge-sharing is essential for collective growth.

“Supporting fellow analysts and promoting the importance of seed testing is vital for our industry’s success,” she adds.
