Manitoba Crop Report

Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development says total seeding progress is sitting at about 42 per cent complete, compared to the three-year average of 55 per cent.

Seed germination and emergence has been slow, though expected to improve rapidly with warmer conditions.

Many farmers are unable to seed corner-corner, as frequent wet spots prevent machinery access. Delays and stuck equipment are common.

Producers are considering switching out of longer-season corn crops in favour of shorter season cereals if corn is not planted by the end of this week.

Farmers are managing soil surface moisture with vertical tillage, multi-pass harrowing, or residue burning.
