NDSU Extension to Hold Farmer’s Market Vendor Symposium

Topics will include marketing, high tunnels, food safety and soil health.

Farmer’s market vendors will have a chance to learn more about marketing their products at a symposium hosted by NDSU Extension – Ward County on Jan. 26-27 at the North Central Research Extension Center near Minot, North Dakota.

Any current market vendor or anyone interested in selling at a local farmer’s market is invited to attend.

“Take a break from your winter planning and learn about topics to help grow your farmer’s market business,” says Emily How, NDSU Extension horticulture agent in Ward County and symposium coordinator. “This will be a terrific networking and learning experience.”

Topics will include marketing, high tunnels, food safety and soil health.

Presenters include Paige Brummund, NDSU Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Ward County and Esther McGinnis, NDSU Extension horticulturist. Brummund will speak on meat vending and the issues to be aware of when selling meat at a farmer’s market, while McGinnis will discuss high-tunnel gardening in North Dakota.

Registrant check-in begins at 12:30 p.m., with the symposium beginning at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26. The first day will conclude with a social at Prairie Sky Breads. A panel of peers will be available to discuss how they utilize social media and how they market their business. Day two of the symposium begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 3 p.m. Lunch will be catered.
