Prairie Oat Crop Is Progressing Well

The Prairie Oat Growers Association says this year's crop is progressing well right across the Prairies.

President Jenneth Johanson says areas, where there has been significant moisture, will likely see some downgrading of the crop.

She notes the west block of Alberta is reportedly wet, while the Peace River area has seen some extreme rainfall events.

The June Statistics Canada Production Report Estimates show the area seeded to oats in Canada for 2020-21 crop year increased by about 6% to its highest level since 2009.

It says World Oat Production and Supply is expected to grow due to higher production and supplies in the main exporting countries.

Overall, demand for food and feed oats is expected to rise as well.
