Saskatchewan cattle farmers pleased with TB quarantine lift on prairie ranches

Saskatchewan cattlemen welcome the lifting of all quarantines imposed on prairie ranches over six cases of bovine tuberculosis.

Bovine TB was found on an Alberta ranch in September 2016, prompting the quarantine and testing of 30,000 cattle on 150 farms across the Canadian prairies.

Saskatchewan Stock Growers president Shane Jahnke is pleased to see the lifting of all restrictions, but it doesn’t do much for cattle ranchers who’ve had their herds decimated.

“My heart bleeds for those guys that were affected.” said Jahnke. “There’s so much uncertainty for a long period of time and hopefully going forward, they can rebuild their herds and get on with their business.”
