Saskatchewan expected to start spring seeding first

Saskatchewan farmers are expected to start spring seeding within the next few days.

Provincial Crop Extension Specialist, Daphne Cruise said seeding will likely begin in pockets of the southwest on Saturday.

“Some of the producers I’ve talked to are hoping maybe to start this weekend in the south part of the province, more towards the southwest, but it’s varying pockets here and there,” Cruise said.

“Hopefully it sounds like more will start at the beginning of next week in the south, where a lot of our snow has been gone for a couple weeks now,” Cruise added.

Cruise said it will likely be more than a week before any seeding gets underway in the northern grainbelt.
