Saskatchewan Releases New Clubroot Map

The 2021 Clubroot Distribution Map is compiled annually through Ministry of Agriculture surveys and reports/samples submitted by producers and agrologists.

The map outlines the Rural Municipalities where clubroot has been identified.

Saskatchewan began scouting for clubroot in 2017, and to date 80 commercial canola fields in the province have been identified with visible signs of the disease.

The latest report from the Province and Sask Canola show five new fields with visible symptoms of clubroot.

The number of fields where the clubroot pathogen DNA has been detected in soil samples with no visible symptoms increased by nine in 2021, for a total of 38 fields in the province.

Last year, the Province and SaskCanola encouraged producers to voluntarily test their soils for the presence of the clubroot pathogen.

In all, 100 soil samples were submitted through the voluntary testing program, from which there was only one positive result.

The other eight positive soil samples identified in 2021 were collected through the provincial clubroot risk-based and general canola diseases surveys.

SaskCanola covered the costs of the soil test kits.
